DJ Lessons for Adults
Our DJ lessons for adults run at every level. Some people arrive having never touched a controller. Others have been mixing for years and want to get sharper. We provide all the equipment, so there is nothing to buy before you start.
Most have been meaning to do this for a while.
Some bought a controller during lockdown and it has been under the bed ever since. Some played records in the nineties and want it back. Some can already mix and have hit a wall that YouTube is not getting them past.
Nobody is going to test you. There is no audition and no theory. You learn by doing, on real equipment, with someone next to you who has done it a thousand times.
Start From Scratch
Our beginner course
You will be on the decks within the first ten minutes and mixing two tracks together before the session ends. Across the course you will learn how to hear where a track begins and ends, how to get two songs running in time with each other, how to move between them without anyone noticing the join, and how to build a set that goes somewhere. We cover the equipment properly too, so you know what you are touching instead of pressing things and hoping.
Small groups. Everything provided.
Groups of up to six. Prices are per person and include all equipment.
£90 for a single two hour session.
£360 for the four session course, or £540 for six sessions.
Weekday evenings, 7pm to 9pm or 8pm to 10pm.
Tighten Up
For DJ’s who want to get better
These sessions are about the gap between competent and good. Reading a room. Building a set with a shape to it. Using EQ because you mean it rather than because a tutorial said so. Matching tracks by key so they sound right together. Getting confident enough to stop leaning on the sync button.
Also the right session if you could do this once and it has been twenty years.
Groups of up to four. Prices are per person and include all equipment.
Weekday evenings, Saturday mornings or Sunday Evenings.
One to One Lessons
For anyone who wants to go at their own speed, work on one specific thing, or would rather not learn in front of other people.
We build the session around you. That might be a technique that will not stick, a genre you want to get right, a wedding you have foolishly agreed to DJ, or picking up something you dropped years ago. Learn on our equipment or bring your own.

Weekday daytime sessions are our quietest, so they are the cheapest and easiest to book at short notice. Useful if your hours are flexible.
Parties and Private Events
Birthdays, hen and stag dos, work socials, anniversaries.
We bring the decks, the speakers and an instructor. Everyone gets a proper turn rather than one person hogging it while the rest watch. By the end, everyone in the room has mixed something. It suits groups who want to do something together instead of standing around a pub.

Corporate and Team Sessions
A team day where nobody has to fall backwards into anyone’s arms.
We turn your room into a club for the afternoon. Four DJ stations running at once, so people are on the decks in small groups rather than queueing. Lighting, decorations and a proper PA. Props and outfits for anyone who wants them. A bowl of the sweets everyone ate at school.
Your team learns the basics in pairs, then goes head to head in a mixing competition with a host on the microphone. There is a trophy. People take it more seriously than they expect to.
Everyone leaves having actually mixed something, and we send over the recordings and photos afterwards.

We come to your office. We need a room and access to power. Larger groups and unusual formats are no problem, get in touch and we will quote it.
We invoice on 30 day terms and can work with purchase orders. A 25% deposit holds the date.
Cannot make it to a session?
If you already own a controller, we can teach you over video call. You get the same hour with the same instructor, working on your own setup at home.
This works well for improvers and for anyone outside our travel area. It is not the right route for complete beginners, who need to be in a room with the equipment and someone next to them.
You will need your own DJ controller and a laptop with the software installed. Get in touch if you are not sure whether your setup will work.
Where the money goes
DJ Club CIC is not a DJ school. We are a community interest company, which means the money from adult lessons goes back into workshops for young people who would otherwise never get near a set of decks.
Music has been quietly disappearing from schools for fifteen years. GCSE Music entries have dropped by more than a third since 2010, and 42% of state schools in England now enter nobody at all.
So you learn something you have wanted to do for a while, and a fourteen year old in Romford gets their first go on a controller. That is the arrangement.

Everything is provided. Bring yourself and a rough idea of the music you like.

We run sessions across London and Essex at the same prices.
Access
We deliver adapted sessions as standard practice rather than as a special arrangement. That includes lower volume and a predictable session structure, longer processing time, and equipment set up for limited fine motor control using large colour-coded pads instead of small controls. Same result, different route to it.
If you are not sure whether we can accommodate something, ask. The answer is usually yes.
All instructors are DBS checked and DJ Club CIC carries full public liability insurance.
Questions people ask
Do I need any experience? No. Most people booking Start From Scratch have never touched a DJ controller. If you can already mix, Tighten Up or a one to one will suit you better.
Do I need my own gear? No, not for in person sessions. We bring everything, headphones included. If you own a controller and want to learn on it, bring it. Virtual lessons are the exception, you will need your own setup for those.
What music will I be mixing? Yours. House, garage, drum and bass, disco, hip hop, soul, whatever you actually listen to. The skills are the same across genres and you will pick them up faster on music you like.
Which session is right for me? Never mixed before, take Start From Scratch. Can hold a mix together but want it tighter, take Tighten Up. Not sure, book a taster and we will tell you honestly.
Why do evening sessions cost more than daytime? Evenings and Saturdays are when most people want to come, so those slots book up first. Weekday daytime is quieter, so we price it lower. If your hours are flexible it is the best value we offer.
Are prices different in London and Essex? No. Same sessions, same prices, wherever we are running them.
Am I too old? No. We teach all ages from 3+
How long until I can actually DJ? You will mix two tracks in your first session. Making it sound smooth every time takes practice. Most people feel ready to play at a party after 6-8 sessions.
Do I need to read music? No. DJing is counting and listening. If you can count to four, you are fine.
Group or one to one? Groups are cheaper per hour, more sociable and follow a set structure. One to one goes at your pace and covers exactly what you want. Plenty of people do a course first and then book one to ones to push further.
What if I need the session adapted? Ask us. We adapt sessions as a matter of course, for physical access, sensory needs, processing time and fine motor control. Tell us what would help and we will set the room up for it before you arrive.
How old do you have to be? Adult sessions are 18 and over. If you are 16 or 17, our youth provision covers you and goes up to 21, so get in touch and we will point you to the right session.
Can you do a party for a 16th or 18th birthday? Yes, with a parent or guardian present throughout and at least two weeks notice so we can complete a risk assessment. All our instructors are enhanced DBS checked.
What if hardly anyone books onto the course? We run it whatever the numbers. A smaller group means more hands on time on the equipment each, which is no bad thing.
Do you take a deposit? For parties and corporate bookings, yes, 25% to hold the date with the balance due on the day. Courses and one to ones are paid upfront. Cancellations more than 14 days out are refunded in full.
Will you take photos at our event? Only if you are happy for us to. We ask when you book rather than on the night, and if any of your guests would rather not appear, just say and we will work around it.
